News from Masulita Uganda
February 2009
|
Hello friends. Greetings in the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ! We thank the Lord who has
enabled us to enter into this New Year with His
favor and blessing. We believe 2009 is going to be a
year of new blessings, as well as challenges. As
with every other year, we began by holding a Pastors
Conference in Masulita Worship Centre. With the
world crying out because of the economic crisis, we
are thankful that our God is not hindered by global
economic conditions. He provided us the funds
through you, our good friends. Thank you for your
faithful generosity to the work of God in this
place. |

The
conference was wonderful.
We gathered together for five days, from
Monday through Friday, January 26-30. As
usual, we set up a shelter in the yard of
our church where we could accommodate many
people in a cooler setting during the hot,
sunny days.
Some delegates started
arriving Sunday evening and stayed overnight while
others came right from their villages Monday
morning. Since the means of transport is not easy
here, we usually borrow a lorry from our mission
headquarters to help transport the people from the
villages to Masulita. It is not really the best
means, but we have found it cost effective since it
brings in a number of people at the same time. About
150 people were brought in using
this lorry (left). |
|
|
Our shelter (right)
was big enough to seat about nine hundred people
and we were able to accommodate all the attendees
during the sunny days. This time there were a few
rainy periods, but that didn’t stop the conference.
Even though it rained at night, we had a few hours
each morning to prepare our conference shelter and
seating.
According to the
register, the largest gathering of adults was about
seven hundred people. Of this number, about fifty
were village pastors. |

Pastor Curt
Miller, from The Worship Centre in Brighton,
brought 120 study bibles as gifts for
the pastors. It is hard for some of these
pastors to get good research materials to
help understand the whole truth of the word
of God. For those who can read English, such
a bible is a good resource. We thank Pastor
Curt for such a good heart.
The pastors
raised their bibles up while some of the
guest speakers prayed for them (see right).
Also some of the people who minister
together with these pastors received some of
the bibles. The remaining bibles were
donated to Yesu Akwagala Bible College, an
English speaking bible college of this
mission, for the benefit of the incoming
students. |

We had many different
activities take place and the team from New
Heart Worship Center led by Pastor Gordon,
did a very good work in this conference. Below are
some of the things that took place. |

Shelley Pauls teaching a
women's workshop |

Pastor Travis teaching a workshop for young people |

There was also a
great deal of work that went on outside the
conference shelter.
Tim and Dwight worked in the
guest house putting in different types of
hangings and closets (below)

Alicia, Denise and Shelley worked
on the kids workshop in church. About 250 – 350
children attended from around the village and many
came from far away with their parents (below). |

After the conference
on Saturday, the entire team participated in an
outreach to a local village. This time it wasn’t
to preach the gospel only with words, but also
through
action. They met many of the different needs of the
villagers deep in the bush, providing food, prayer,
and comfort to the people. |

Here are the
members of the team who visited the village |

The team
visited the house which Tim and Denise helped build for
the orphans, in a village about four
kilometers from Masulita. God moved the
heart of Pastor Cyrus from Masulita to start
caring for children who have lost both
parents and don’t have anyone to bring them
into their home and care for them.
About three
years back, Denise (above) visited Pastor Cyrus and
found he was trying to care for a large
number of children in a very small house.
She was moved by this situation and she decided to do something about it. When
she returned to the USA, after meeting with a
number of people about this matter, she and Tim decided to
build the children a house. |
